Fred Crump, Jr. was born in Houston, Texas on Junes 7 1931. He received a Master's Degree in Art from Sam Houston College in 1961. He moved to Palm Springs, California and taught art at a junior high school for 32 years. After retiring from teaching, he began a career as an author and illustrator of children's books. Fred Crump created his fairytale series with the inclusion of Black children in mind, and his work has, and will continue to touch lives for generations to come. Fred Crump wrote and illustrated other picture books including Cinderella, Afrotina and the Three Bears, Rapunzel, Rumpelstilskin, Hakim and Grenita, A Rose for Zemira, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood just to name a few!
