Monsters have always been portrayed as fearless creatures, causing terror and havoc wherever they go. They are depicted as beings without emotions or vulnerability, striking fear into the hearts of humans. But have you ever wondered if even monsters get scared?

Contrary to popular belief, even monsters experience fear. Just like us humans, they have their own set of fears and insecurities. In this article, we will delve deeper into the concept of fear and explore how monsters, who are often perceived as fearless, also grapple with their own internal demons.

Understanding Fear: A Basic Human Emotion

Fear is a natural response triggered by our brain's instinct to survive. It plays a crucial role in avoiding potential threats and dangerous situations. However, fear can also be irrational and debilitating if left unchecked. It sneaks into our minds, paralyzing us and preventing us from living our lives to the fullest.

Monsters, despite their fearsome appearance, are not immune to these feelings. They may fear rejection, failure, and the uncertainty of the future, just like any ordinary person. Their monstrous exterior often serves as a protective shield, hiding their inner vulnerabilities.

The Fear of the Unknown

One of the most prominent fears shared by both humans and monsters is the fear of the unknown. The uncertainty of what lies ahead can be overwhelming and daunting. Monsters, just like humans, are creatures of habit and find comfort in familiarity. Stepping out of their comfort zones and facing uncertainty can be terrifying for them as well.

Monsters, much like humans, tend to fear change. They fear losing their power or facing ridicule from their peers. This fear often prevents them from exploring new opportunities or pursuing their dreams.

Overcoming Fear: The Monster's Journey

Despite their fears, monsters too can learn to conquer and overcome their inner demons. Just as individuals go through personal growth and development, monsters can embark on their own journey of self-discovery.

Recognizing and acknowledging one's fears is the first step towards conquering them. By understanding the root cause of their fear, monsters can then take necessary steps to confront and overcome it. It is important for them to realize that vulnerability is not a weakness but a strength, as it allows for personal growth and connection with others.

Monsters can seek support from fellow creatures facing similar struggles. Surrounding themselves with a supportive community who understands their fears and insecurities can be immensely helpful. This sense of solidarity will not only help them realize that they are not alone, but also empower them to face their fears head-on.

Embracing Vulnerability: The Power of Empathy

Monsters may also benefit from expressing their emotions and sharing their fears with others. Just like humans, they can experience relief and catharsis by speaking about their struggles. This vulnerability fosters empathy, both within themselves and towards others.

By embracing vulnerability, monsters can create meaningful connections with humans and other scary creatures alike. The art of empathy allows them to understand and relate to the fears of others, fostering a sense of unity and shared experiences. This connection can be transformative, enabling monsters to see beyond their monstrous facade and build relationships based on trust and understanding.

In , monsters, despite their fearsome appearances, are not emotionless beings. They too grapple with fear, just like humans. By recognizing their fears and embracing vulnerability, monsters can embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. They can conquer their deepest fears and establish connections based on trust, empathy, and understanding. So, the next time you come across a monster, remember, even monsters get scared.

Even Monsters Get Scared

Once I told my monster a secret I had,

I’m afraid of the dark, it makes me quite sad.

The shadows and sounds scare me a lot,

Was that an alien? I hope it was not.

Children's books author, Sigal Adler, just keeps adding to her now rather impressive number of books for children. Each of her books was written in Hebrew and as they became best sellers in Israel she decided to have them translated into English to benefit an even broader range of children. As always Sigal's rhyming style is delightful. The stories are not only entertaining but they also carry some subtle messages to those children fortunate enough to read them - or have them read to them. The books are enhanced by one the top illustrators - Harry Aveira.

It is the autumn season and what better way to introduce a lad and his Monster – the lad tries to question his monster as to why the monster is never scared. Do sharks, elephants, crocodiles, lions, and bears not frighten him? Of course, the Monster replies that he is scarier than all of them, but when the two friends search in the dark basement for a ball to play with, they encounter a hiding mouse – and the Monster is terrified! This reassures the boy that even monsters get scared – ‘After this happened, we played ball in the sun, but we learned a lesson, and it was quite fun. We’re all a bit brave, but we get scared too. Monsters and children, like me and you.

A fun story with a solid message beautifully illustrated - and Sigal Adler successfully adds to her repertoire of fine children's books. Grady Harp,
