She was an adopted child, a servant, a maid, and a farmworker in the unforgiving environment of west-central Iceland. After meeting and marrying her husband, Saeumundur, while working on a farm, the couple moved to southwestern Iceland where they completed their family. Looking for a better life for their four children, She and Saemundur emigrated from Iceland for a new life in Canada. Helga’s life ended abruptly at sixty years of age from a typhus epidemic in Manitoba. However, her legacy and memory live on through her surviving offspring and their descendants.
