Imagine a world where education is not limited to textbooks and classrooms; where students are encouraged to explore their passions, think critically, and become global citizens. This is the vision that Jon Tattrie, the first principal of Greenfield High School, embodies. With his innovative approach to education, Tattrie is revolutionizing the way we think about teaching and learning.

The First Principal Jon Tattrie: Shaping The Future Of Education The First Principal Jon Tattrie

When Tattrie took on the role of principal at Greenfield High School three years ago, he knew he had a unique opportunity to create a school that prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century. With a background in progressive education and a deep understanding of the needs of today's learners, Tattrie set out to build a school where curiosity is nurtured, collaboration is encouraged, and students are empowered to take ownership of their learning.

One of the key principles that Tattrie has implemented at Greenfield High School is personalized learning. Recognizing that each student has different strengths, interests, and learning styles, Tattrie has created a flexible curriculum that allows students to explore their passions while still meeting core academic requirements. Through project-based learning, internships, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations, students have the opportunity to apply what they learn in real-world contexts, fostering a deep understanding and a love for learning.

Tattrie also understands the importance of technology in preparing students for the future. With a fully-equipped makerspace, coding classes, and a focus on digital literacy, students at Greenfield High School are equipped with the skills they need to thrive in a world that is increasingly driven by technology. Tattrie believes that technology should be used as a tool for learning and creativity, not just for consumption. By seamlessly integrating technology into the curriculum, students are able to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills that are essential for success in the digital age.

But Tattrie's impact reaches far beyond the walls of Greenfield High School. He is a passionate advocate for educational reform and has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and events around the world. Tattrie believes that the traditional education system is outdated and that we need new models of schooling that encourage creativity, curiosity, and adaptability. He has collaborated with educators, policymakers, and researchers to envision a future where education is student-centered, personalized, and relevant to the needs of the 21st century.

It is Tattrie's dedication to his students and his unwavering belief in the power of education that truly sets him apart. He is not just a principal; he is a mentor, a guide, and a role model for his students. Tattrie's passion for teaching and learning is contagious, and it is evident in the thriving learning community that he has created at Greenfield High School.

As we look towards the future of education, it is educators like Jon Tattrie who give us hope. They remind us that change is possible and that we have the power to shape the future. By challenging traditional notions of education and embracing innovation, Tattrie is paving the way for a new generation of learners who are prepared to take on the challenges of an ever-changing world.

If you're looking for a school that values creativity, critical thinking, and personalized learning, look no further than Greenfield High School. Under the leadership of Jon Tattrie, this school is redefining what education looks like, and shaping the future of learning.

P S Mani Sundaram, the founder-principal of the Regional Engineering College (REC), Trichy (now National Institute of Technology) is the chief protagonist of this inspiring volume. 'Princi', as Professor Mani Sundaram was affectionately called by generations of students, emerges as an unsung genius and one of independent India's foremost institution builders. Princi gave REC Trichy the distinction of consistently featuring among the top 10 Engineering colleges of India for 50 consecutive years. A maverick entrepreneur-educationist who had to beat the odds of functioning under India's political and bureaucratic regimes of the 1960s and 70s, Princi is also remembered as a charismatic leader who upped the ante of India's higher education. Besides driving the astounding success of REC Trichy, he laid a solid foundation for Bharathidasan University in Tamil Nadu as its first Vice-Chancellor. His foresight and vision helped it grow from strength to strength. Today the Bharathidasan Institute of Management, the poster boy of the University, stands tall as one of India’s premier Business Schools, rubbing shoulders with the IIMs.

The First Principal is divided into three parts. The first relates to the author’s initial years at REC and his experiences of Princi and how Princi empowered people and provided the enablement to allow them to discover their own potential. The second part focuses on Princi’s capabilities as an academician who recruited the best, created the right environment, and then made sure that the culture allowed everybody to bring out their best. His was a deceptive determination that allowed him to play with soft hands, deftly driving through the maze of bureaucratic obstacles. The last section provides an insight into the character of the man, the impact of his style of governance, and his knack in keeping alive the child in each student he picked for REC.

The First Principal relates episodes that bring out the genius of Mani Sundaram. You’ll be inspired.
