This Is Me: An Ordinary Disabled Woman
![Jese Leos](https://epilogueepic.com/author/mario-benedetti.jpg)
Being disabled does not define who I am. My disability is just one aspect of my identity, alongside many other qualities that make me an ordinary woman. In this journey, I have faced challenges and triumphs, but ultimately, I have learned to embrace my disability and navigate life with strength and resilience.
Embracing My Differences
From a young age, I realized that I was unique. While some people might see my disability as a limitation, I have come to view it as an opportunity to see the world from a different perspective. It has forced me to find creative solutions to everyday tasks and has given me a deeper appreciation for the little things in life that others may take for granted.

Although I encounter physical barriers, I refuse to let them hinder my dreams and aspirations. Society often places limitations on individuals with disabilities, but I have chosen to break free from those confines and push beyond the boundaries that have been imposed upon me. Being an ordinary disabled woman means constantly challenging societal norms and embracing the importance of inclusion and accessibility for all.
A Day in My Life
Every day presents unique challenges and opportunities for growth. As an ordinary disabled woman, I have adapted to a routine that suits my needs while allowing me to pursue my passions. My mornings often involve physical therapy exercises and stretches, helping me maintain strength while managing any pain or discomfort.
Throughout the day, I engage in various activities like writing, reading, and advocating for disability rights. Technology has played a significant role in enabling me to communicate effectively and participate in online communities to share my experiences and offer support to others.
In the afternoons, I often engage in creative outlets such as painting or crafting. These activities not only allow me to express myself but also provide a sense of accomplishment and relaxation.
Challenges and Triumphs
Living with a disability comes with its fair share of challenges. From physical barriers to societal stigma, the world often fails to provide the necessary accommodations and support for individuals like me. However, I have never allowed these challenges to define me or limit my potential.
One of my greatest triumphs was earning a college degree. Despite doubts and discouragement, I persevered through countless obstacles and proved that disability does not equate to incompetence. This achievement not only solidified my self-worth but also empowered me to advocate for equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Breaking Barriers and Inspiring Change
In a world that often overlooks individuals with disabilities, it is crucial for stories like mine to be shared. By sharing my experiences and journey, I aim to not only inspire others facing similar challenges but also break societal barriers and misconceptions surrounding disabilities.
Through my activism and advocacy work, I strive to promote inclusivity and accessibility. I believe that society has the responsibility to create an environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive and contribute without limitations.
I am an ordinary disabled woman who refuses to let her disability define her. My journey has been filled with both challenges and triumphs, but through it all, I have learned the importance of embracing differences, pushing beyond societal norms, and advocating for inclusivity and accessibility.
By sharing my story, I hope to inspire change and encourage others to see the person behind the disability. Together, we can create a world where disabilities are seen as strengths rather than limitations and where everyone has equal opportunities to live a fulfilling life.

What separates you from a disabled person?
Having grown up in Africa with cerebral palsy, Briony has put pen to paper and tried to describe the trials, tears, laughs and tribulations that come with being an abled-minded person in a disabled person’s body.
Having been born in what was then Rhodesia, later to become Zimbabwe, this candid book aims to let people peek and glimpse into the daily hardships, workings and thoughts that come with being a disabled person whilst giving an account of her life growing up on a peaceful idyllic farm to the huge upheaval that came with having to move half way around the world to the UK to escape the injustices of Zimbabwe and its political upheaval.
